Dentons ACAS-Law is pleased to announce the appointment of Taiwo Afonja as the new Managing Partner of the firm effective 1 January 2023. She is taking over the role from Felicia Kemi Segun, who is stepping down from the position and is passing on the baton after 5 years of successfully leading the firm. Kemi will continue to provide outstanding legal services to our clients especially in the oil and gas sector where she has for well over a decade been ranked in Band 1 (Chambers Global Guide) and continues to be recognized as a Global Elite Thought Leader (Who’s Who Legal) and Highly Regarded Lawyer (IFLR1000).

Taiwo Afonja has been described as a lawyer “you never have to worry about getting what you need from her technically… Her sense of ownership on each brief is also remarkable”, and is ranked as a Highly Regarded Lawyer in the Project Development practice area (IFLR1000 2022). She has over 27 years of legal practice experience 25 of which have been with Dentons ACAS-Law where she started as an Associate. She specializes in energy and natural resources and has a proven track record of representing both multi-national and national clients in a variety of transactions, including licensing, acquisitions, divestments, farm-in transactions, strategic alliances, and financing in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. She is also well-versed in the structuring, negotiation, and documentation of transactions and related financing in domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions in the oil and gas, mining, and power sectors.

In her role as the Managing Partner of Dentons ACAS-Law, Taiwo will bring to bear her deep understanding of the firm's culture and values which combined with her legal expertise and strong leadership skills, will ensure that Dentons ACAS-Law continues to deliver exceptional service to all its clients in an increasingly complex and integrated marketplace as we together embrace the everchanging future and the opportunities it presents.
