Nigeria’s power sector is the story of enormous potential, hurdled by incessant challenges. In an attempt to optimise the sector and bring it to a higher level of market and consumer satisfaction, the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has in the last decade, implemented certain initiatives, including investments in numerous infrastructural developments1, supporting renewable energy2 and an extensive privatisation exercise. In spite of these efforts, a considerable number of Nigerians still face high electricity expenses and endure frequent power outages. Additionally, there are communities that remain without access to electricity, severely hindering the country's socio-economic progress. Lack of distribution networks, grid capacity, supply and demand gaps, vandalism, right-of-way issues and underinvestment are considered key bottlenecks in the sector. Thus, the FGN has declared another reformative step that could perhaps, transform the power sector.
